What Resolution Should You Choose For Your CCTV System?

You now have a wide range of options when it comes to choosing your cctv camera system in Singapore While this is awesome, it can also be extremely confusing. One of the options you will have to consider is the resolution of your CCTV system should have. The resolution indicates how clear your camera’s video will be and that is a really important factor to consider.  Here are some things to check to choose the right one.

Understanding camera resolution

 

●   256 x 256: This resolution is often found in very cheap cameras. It is too low to be of any use as the picture quality is often unusable. This produces a total of just 65,000 pixels.

 

●   640x480: At this resolution, a camera is now usable. While the image quality will be too low for detailed analysis, you can still use it for web images or emails.

 

●   1216x912: This is the stage where you now start venturing into megapixels. 1216 x 912 can allow you to print pictures with reasonable quality. This resolution will have 1.1 megapixels.

 

●   1600x1200: Totaling almost up to 2 million pixels, the image is now officially high resolution. This can yield prints of up to 4x5 inches. That is about the same quality a photo lab might give you.

 

●   2240 x 1680: The details are striking, and you will be able to cover a wide area without losing quality or making the image grainy.

 

●   4064x2704: This is now top of the line and most domestic CCTV cameras do not need to go this high.

 

 

What resolution do you have to get?

You most likely do not need to get a 4K, 12 Megapixel CCTV camera system in Singapore. When determining what resolution is enough, it is not just a matter of blindly upgrading to a more advanced system. In most cases, this will be a waste. It all depends on what are you are covering and what details you would like to capture. Here are four things to consider.

 

 

Go for 2 megapixels or more if you need to recognise faces.

If it is a must for you to capture the facial details of your subjects, you should go for a 2 megapixel CCTV camera system. But this only goes as far as 13 ft. And does not do well if it is placed at an angle. To navigate around this issue, buy at least two cameras to have more effective coverage.

 

 

Go for 4 megapixels or more if you want to cover a large area.

A higher resolution camera can give you reasonable details even if the target is at a distance. You get two benefits with this: you will have situational awareness of your surroundings as well as details if you need them.

 

 

Use low-resolution IP cameras if you have low bandwidth and storage space

High-resolution IP cameras can give you great details. Built it also means they will gobble up your bandwidth. If you find yourself in such a situation, you will have to sacrifice your CCTV’s resolution or find ways of increasing your bandwidth.

 

The same applies to storage. If you have limited hard drive space, you have to go for a low-resolution IP CCTV camera system in Singapore since the higher the resolution, the more space the files will take up.
